StoryPeople "Kindred Spirits" wood & wire sculptureClick any image to see it full size
From the Valley of Lost Sculptures in downtown Decorah, Iowa (home of the StoryPeople headquarters) here's a like-new wood & wire sculpture. This wall-hanging sculpture measures about 15 inches tall & 24 inches wide & includes an original Brian Andreas story entitled "Kindred Spirits." The full text reads: "You're the strangest person I ever met, she said & I said you too & we decided we'd know each other a long time." The back side is stamped "From the studios of Brian Andreas," dated "2006" & numbered "No. 2." We have decided to make this sculpture available for auction on eBay rather than sell it retail as it is a discontinued body shape & only a few remain of this design. In the first edition of his first book, Mostly True, published in 1993 when StoryPeople was still a fledgling operation coming out of Brian's studio in Berkeley, Brian described StoryPeople as "wood sculptures, two to three feet tall, in a roughly human form. Each one is cut, or pieced, out of recycled barn and fence wood, painted with bright colors, and hand stamped with original stories. Each figure has a 'shadow face.' Many people have called them spirit faces. The faces are softly blended into the wood surface, and make each StoryPerson feel as if there is a living presence there. Every StoryPerson is signed and numbered. The stories are used for a limited number of times, and each figure is unique."
