Common Name: Muiracatiara, Flooring Trade Name: Tigerwood, Botanical Name: Astronium, spp Lumber Name: Goncalo Alves. This species grows in: Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Guatemala, and Mexico . Tigerwood is a boldly striped species which has an orange/reddish brown background with wide dark brownish black striping, hence the name. It is a species which exhibits a wide range of color/striping. The striping can vary from fine lines to bold “brush strokes”. The background color can range from light tans to darker orange browns. Tigerwood exhibits a large degree of color change with a pronounced darkening of the background under the stripes from an orange/tan to a deep reddish brown color. Tigerwood is about 200% harder than domestic Red Oak flooring. This product has tongue and groove on all four sides, microbeveled edges, and ten (10) coats of UV cured polyurethane and aluminum oxide (industrial-grade scratch resistant, microscopic, sapphire crystal) finish. It has a 25 year finish warranty and a lifetime structural warranty. A product like this retails for $8.99/ square foot plus sales tax.
